President Update – Lino Scartozzi

Club President, Lino Scartozzi

The end of 2018, and consequently the end of the 2018 Golf Season brought about a change of guard for the Gosnells Golf Club, with the appointment of a new General Manager, Lucy Guppy.  Lucy has now been with us for 6 months, and, with the support of the Board of Management and Staff, is working through a review of all aspects of the Club with a view to improving service standards and efficiency.  We are committed to ensuring the course, and Club is one of a high calibre where members and guests enjoy good (and bad) golf, fellowship and camaraderie in a comfortable, friendly environment.

2019 is set to be a period of consolidation for the Club, with the Board, General Manager and wider Committees firmly focused on defining the Club’s future strategic direction.  This process will begin with development of a three year strategic plan, which will be prepared with member satisfaction at the centre of our focus and we look forward to engaging members through the process, firstly with a Member Survey which will be distributed at the end of April.  We aim to present our new Strategic Plan at the end of the membership year and look forward to the focus it will provide moving into the 2019-2020.

Without a shadow of a doubt, our Golf Course is the number one draw card of our Club, and I thank our Ground staff for the hard work they put into delivering what is an A Grade course on an ongoing basis.  The Board is committed to continuing the improvement schedule commenced some three years ago, and has resolved to undertake the renovation of 3 green complexes in 2019.  Work on this will commence in September, and will be completed in the new year.

Our House Manager, Regina Supper, together with Head Chef, Cliff Phillips, under the guidance of General Manager, Lucy, are working through a review of Hospitality Operations with a view to increasing profitability in these areas.  In addition, we are offering members increased opportunities to utilize Club facilities (Parmigiana Night, Australia Day, Easter), we encourage all members to support these initiatives and grow engagement within the Club.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my fellow board members, who, passionately volunteer so much of their time for this Club; it truly is a pleasure working with them.  I would also like to remind members that their work, which largely goes on in the background, should be appreciated and valued for what it is, so please, be kind to your Board members!

Lastly, I would like to invite you all to become Ambassadors of the Gosnells Golf Club, and to be engaged in the recruitment of new members.  Our membership is strong, but has room to become even stronger.  Together, as Ambassadors we need to promote this wonderful golf course and its facilities.
