Debris on fairways

Update from Club Captain

General

Over the last month we have seen some extreme weather, which has resulted in some competitions being cancelled, plus carts not being able to access the course. Along with the match committee, I understand this can be frustrating, however these decisions need to be made for your safety and lessen the damage to our course over the winter period whilst the grass is dormant. Furthermore, on the subject of course preservation, I would like to remind all members that it is extremely important to repair pitch marks, divots, raking bunkers to limit the damage to our course.

Presentations

July has saw us reinstate Saturday AM presentations, these are being conducted by match committee members Russell Redpath and Mark Watts, I thank them for their efforts in this regard and hope the membership playing in the AM competition supports this initiative.

Moving forward we are looking to creating some Saturday AM Honour Board and should you have any thoughts or proposals on the subject please do not hesitate to contact Captain, Vice-Captain, or any member of the match committee.

Sponsorship

I would like to remind members, dare I say "post covid" we are looking to re-boost our club sponsors for our main competition days Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. If you or a group of members are interested, please contact Captain, Vice-Captain, or main office.

9- hole Wednesday

The format for the 9-hole Wednesday competition has been twigged a little to accommodate a prize presentation.

The 10th tee will hold a morning 9-hole competition - last group 8.45 am.

The 1st tee will hold the all-day 9-hole competition, [this being optional].

These competitions are open to all members (of all genders and categories) so being time poor is no excuse.

Time Sheets

The match committee have noticed a shift as to when and which competition our members are opting to participate, and we welcome this as we are accommodating more members.  But it does create the complication of placing pressure on our booking system/ time sheets, so I do seek members cooperation and patience.

Club Captain

storm damage

Course update - after the storm

3 days of storm and heavy winds from Monday 1 August to Wednesday 3 August certainly created an impact to our course.

Our course super, Bob Holmes, reported a number of large branches fallen (and cleared) and debris on the fairways and greens have been cleared or moved to the rough.

Thank you to our superb greens team that worked hard in difficult weather conditions in past days to clear and clean up the course for members and guest to enjoy.

Quick updates

Reminder - we do not offer a cashout service at the bar. Due to limitations now in place for plastics, we also do not offer plastic bags for ice. If you wish to grab some ice for your golf round, please bring your own cooler bag or ice containers.

During winter, we will limit the service of drinks carts on Tuesdays due to low sales and limiting the damage of cart wheels on the course.

golden ticket car bay

Monthly "Golden Ticket" draw for car park

On the first Saturday of every month, we will be drawing a golden ticket for a lucky club member as advised to our members, back in May 2022. (starting this Saturday 6 August)

Annual paying members are eligible for this draw and the lucky winner will have his/her name on the "golden ticket".

The car park is located closest to the 1st tee ramp and this car park is now reserved for the lucky winner (from Monday 8 August).

The new sponsor's bay is next to this car park as well.

Raffle winners from Josiah Edwards fundraising

Thank you to all our members for your kind donation and support for Josiah Edward's fundraising raffle last Saturday! We raised over $2000 towards the cause.

The Edwards family thank you for your generosity with the following personal message from Josiah:

Thank you to all the Gosnells members who bought a ticket in my raffle to help me compete this month at the School Sport Australia Golf Championships. I appreciate all the support and kind word of encouragement. I am looking forward to represent my family, my state and my club.

Happy golfing everyone

Josiah Edwards

The raffle winners are Darren Roberts (1st place), Walter Panichi (2nd) and Lachlan Olde (3rd).

In addition to above, the Club will be donating $1500 to Josiah from our MDM fundraising pool (mainly spinning wheel winnings from Saturday PM members from past years).
