Update

Special Update from Club President

Dear members,

Further to my update posted last week, today, Vice President Lino and I met with our Life Members to provide them with a first look of the proposed concept plans. It was fantastic to receive their positive feedback . They were very excited as I hope you all are with the potential of our great club. I enclose in this update some of the perspectives and plans to view online. From tomorrow (Thursday) I will display 11 of the plans/perspectives on easels in the main lounge. They will be on display for a couple of weeks in the lounge, then I will move them into the Match room.

I can confirm that our contractor Scott MacLean has declined our offer of a teaching contract. On behalf of the Board of Management, we wish Scott all the very best in his future endeavours.

I have met with both Paul and Calum to discuss their desire to continue their involvement at the club. Paul has agreed in principle to continue working in the pro shop and to enter into a teaching contract with the club. We are in discussion with Calum and look forward to him also joining Paul in a teaching role.

In the meantime, I wish to advise members that Blair who was starting with us in the new role of Golf Operations Manager has had to withdraw and is no longer available. This was out of the clubs control.

As a result, I can now announce Moka Edwards has been appointed to the new role of Golf Operations Manager and will start next Wednesday 23rd November 2022. Moka has had 8 years working in the golf industry. He studied at Curtin University - Australian Institute for Golf Management (Diploma). He has previously worked in the pro shop at Maylands Golf Course and Araluen Golf Resort (Corporate Coordinator). Moka spent a short period as a trainee pro here at Gosnells Golf Club under Andrew Labrooy before leaving to raise a young family. He is married to Christina, father of three. Two of which are also members in Halia and Josiah, our Division 1 pennant player. Moka is very enthusiastic to join the staff at our club and to work very closely with our GM Fiza, Captain Paul, Vice-Captain Grace, our Match committee and Glen, our Junior coordinator.

Please be advised that our pro shop will be closed for renovations and stock movement on Monday 5 Dec and Tuesday 6 Dec. The golf operations will still continue from the Match room.

I look forward to members seeing the benefits of the changes ahead. I ask for your patient whilst we transition the golf programme.

I also look forward to hearing from all members about the proposed concept plans on display in the clubhouse. (4 sneak perspective photos featured below)

R&A Rules of Golf Change

SUBJECT: 1/1/2023 changes to the Rules of Golf; includes:

  • Ground breaking modifications to apply to people with disability.
  • Global modernisation of the way in which the Rules are made available - discontinuance in Australia of hard copies and transition to App and website.

The R&A and the United States Golf Association on 8 November 2022 announced the 2023 changes to the Rules of Golf, with ground breaking modifications for people with disability, and a global modernisation of the way in which the Rules are made available.

The Rules of Golf are traditionally reviewed every four years by the two joint international governing bodies. These changes will come into effect worldwide on 1 January 2023.

Changes that Apply to All Golfers

Aside from the addition of Rule 25, the New Year will also see a series of Rule changes take effect that will apply to every golfer. The main changes are:

  • Simplified Back-on-the-Line Relief. This relief procedure, often used for penalty area and unplayable ball relief, has been simplified so the ball is now dropped on the line, and may roll up to one club-length in any direction without a re-drop being required. This change simplifies what had become a complex procedure that was regularly breached by golfers without them realising they had done so. It represents a return to the essence of the easy-to-apply, pre-2019 process, which was almost entirely free of inaccurate application by golfers at any level of the game.
  • Handicap on Scorecard. Golfers will no longer incur a penalty under the Rules of Golf for accidentally recording an incorrect Daily Handicap on their scorecard. This is because the inclusion of the handicap in the official submission of a player's score will become a responsibility of the Committee. This change is consistent with other penalty reductions, such as reducing the penalty down to only one stroke for playing an incorrectly substituted ball. (Note: In the same way that players are obliged to calculate Stableford points and to include score totals on their scorecard despite the Rules not requiring it, they will also be obliged to record their Daily Handicap when doing so will be helpful to administrators. GA will support any committee that encounters a problem in achieving assistance from golfers with this fundamental obligation.)
  • Replacing Damaged Clubs. If your club is damaged during a round (except in cases of abuse) you may replace it, repair it, or continue to use it.

Courtesy on the Golf Course

We are receiving an increase of complaints from our nearby residents regarding courtesy on the golf course in regards to public urination. We have toilets on the golf course for the use of all golfers, regardless of gender. We highly encourage the use of on course toilets. Please be mindful that when you are on the golf course, you are in line of sight of someone else on the course. If you're not careful, exposure of this nature is not welcomed and it is not a good look for our members, juniors, guests and residents nearby (especially when in full view of kids).
