General Update

Update from Club Board

The season is upon us and what a weekend we have just had. I would like to thank all members for their part in the weekend events.

On the eve of Opening Day, I hosted a short Cocktail event in the Alfresco to pay special thanks to members of our board, committee, our volunteers, staff and their partners. It was an opportunity to thank those that make everything happen so we as members get to enjoy our membership.

Saturday was Opening day and the atmosphere around the club was great. Please join me in thanking Moka and Carlee and their teams for producing a memorable opening day. It was their first joint event. Opening Day was also the first round of the OOM. Thank you to our continued sponsor Greg Dudley and RSM.

Sunday was the last weekend for Junior pennants. Our Juniors had a successful season and presented Pennant Flags to the club. The weekend concluded with the G & L Millet trophy.

We welcome back our GM Fiza from maternity leave. A lot has happened around the club since Fiza left for maternity leave. I'm sure it wont take her long to catch up with everything.

Over the summer period we requested expressions of interest to join sub-committees to work on our clubhouse project (16 Dec 2022). Rob Olde who will chair the Project Development sub-committee has had a good response from members however Charlotte Hall who will chair the Grants & Government sub-committee has had no response. The work that these two sub-committee's do over the coming months will be vital to the success of the project.

The board is expecting to receive an update from Rob Olde over the coming weeks. We will have a road map of each milestone needed to reach DA. We are unclear at this stage until we receive an update from Rob as to what timeline this process will look like.

Gosnells Golf Club representatives will be attending the Golf WA's Industry Awards night, to be held on Friday 31 March. We have submitted nominations for Volunteer of the Year Award for Lawrie Bennett, a Life member and long term member of GGC and have held positions on Committees and Board. Lawrie currently serves as a leader of the Course Volunteers Group. The other nomination that was put through was for Fiza Errington, our General Manager for her work and efforts in the past year with changes to our Constitution and work in governance.

I would also like to announce to members that yesterday the club has accepted an invitation from Golf Australia to host the 2024 Australian Junior Amateur Championship. This event is to be held Monday 9 April 2024 through to Friday 12 April 2024.

Junior pennant teams

Junior Pennant Winners

We listed a total of 4 boys teams and 3 girls teams for the 2023 Golf WA Junior Pennant, easily making us one of the biggest junior contingents for a growing junior membership base.

Out of the 7 teams, we took home the pennant flag for boys division 3&4 and girls division 3!

Our girls in Div 1 had a nail biting battle with Mount Lawley to finish runner up. A stella performance from all involved.

Well done to all juniors in each teams!! And a huge thank you and shoutout to all parents, team managers, caddies and supporters.

Write up from Golf WA website for the junior pennant contests

Troober Prime Offer for GGC Members

Late last year, we advertised that the Club has arranged for a special club price for GGC members. The offer still stands. With our tight corners in our car park, I'm sure this is an offer that is of great value to our members.

They are happy to cover existing damages to your car under the membership offer to get the ball rolling.

The offer:

$300 membership fee per year and receive unlimited repairs for minor dents and scratches at a small price of $50 per repair. This price also includes a yearly clean and detail.

They will come to us. So, have your car repaired on site at GGC while you play golf. Win-win!

New boundary fence

New Boundary Fence

Our members course levy (21k) was utilised to erect the new boundary fence next to our lower range car park.

This fence ensures that we have met the agreed risk management scope (between  us and City of Gosnells) for stray golf balls from the range towards our nearby residents and property.

The fence is a result from a broad year-long negotiation between the Club and the Council to ensure that our OH&S is covered and Risk is mitigated.
