Special edition - ANZAC Day

In this Special Edition Anzac Day celebration newsletter, we honour those who have served and those who continue to serve in Australia's armed forces. We recognise more than a hundred thousand Australian service men and women who have lost their lives in military operations carried out in our country's name. We honour the values that have been invested in the original Anzacs - loyalty, selflessness, courage - and the ways in which later generations have measured their own achievements against those of the soldiers who fought on Gallipoli.

At the Club, we will be playing the W McGhie Perpetual Trophy, an honour board event.

This honour board event will be opened for booking to our full, life and corporate members 1 day prior to all other categories. The timesheet will be opened for booking on Sunday 16 April at 6pm and every other category will have access to book on Monday 17 April at 5pm.

Club President Update

Important update on membership

Over the past few weeks, I have chaired a working group to take a closer look at "membership equality". For the first time, that I am aware of, we have the data set to analyse the playing habits of all members (individually) to better understand membership equality and therefore the scale of "value for money". The working group comprises the full board of management, the finance committee, and our vice-captain.

During this time, and independently, I have also received correspondence from a few members about the same issue. I am pleased to say, this has been a worthwhile exercise. We as a working group believe we have modelled changes to improve membership equality and provide a platform for future membership growth.

The changes will be fully communicated by our GM in the coming weeks.

Thank you to members

Recently I travelled with our Junior member Josiah Edwards who played (along with Jarryd Felton) in the NSW Open. Whilst Josiah narrowly missed the cut, he represented our club with passion. He should be very proud of his achievement. Believe me, he played awesome (except that one-hole). Congratulations to Jarryd for his T25 finish.

I would like to thank all members that contributed to the fundraising to make the travel possible for Josiah (and myself). I would like to personally thank our Club Champion, Adam Elwell for his very kind donation of $500 towards the hire car. Thank you, Adam.

Project Development Committee Update

The Project Development Committee updated the GGC Board at its March meeting and is presently focused on dialogue and communication regarding land tenure, suitability and ensuring long term security with relevant authorities. We have had discussion with the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage (DPLH) and a potential roadmap to land tenure of the various parts of our underlying land holdings.

Further the DPLH is also in direct dialogue and providing advice to the City of Gosnells directly for the proposed redevelopment of the clubhouse and construction of a multipurpose golf training centre. It is encouraging that all parties are keen to engage with this project and securing the future of the Gosnells Golf Club.

Board Member and Chair of Project Development Committee

Lawrie Bennett narrowly missed out on Volunteer of the Year Award but you are always a winner in our eyes, Lawrie!

Hospitality Update

Thank you to you, our members for your support since my commencement in my role, 2 months ago.

Our March events were buzzing with our Friday $15 Specials which were well-received and our Friday Night 31 March dining was one of the biggest with over 180 patrons! Wow! (Pictured above was a small section of the set up for the night)

Thank you to my team of staff that worked amazingly to cover the night and we will certainly work on providing continuous improvement to our offering and services.

Special shout-outs to our members

John Stockbridge has kindly donated a computer for our Twilight competition. Thank you John for your generosity and the computer will go a long way in calculating scores for our Twilight competitions.

Our recently departed club member, Bob Crew has been a member of over 20 years and had $650 in his top up account. Bob's family has generously and kindly donated this amount to our Club's Junior Fund. Thank you to Bob's family for your kind donation.

Don Orr was the winner of our Thursday 30 March competition with an amazing score of 40 points CB but what was more amazing was that he shot his age in gross score - 89! Wow. What a feat Don!

Birthday vouchers - system fixed

We are pleased to report that the automated birthday vouchers have resumed from 26 March however there is a gap between 22 Feb and 26 March for affected members. Our office staff are going through the list and manually sending the birthday vouchers. If you have not received yours by end of next week, please contact Marilyn at reception@gosnellsgc.com.au.

Pennant season starts

The pennant season for men, women and seniors will commence shortly. We are still seeking expression of interest for any men players that would like to play and represent GGC in Pennants. A grade (Div 2 and 4) doesn't have a handicap limit but Division 5 and 6 are max 13 and 15 respectively. Please sign up in the pro shop.

3rd hole new fence

Our 3rd tee fence is now in play.

A special thank you to club member, Matt Gannon for his assistance in working with our course team to erect the fence.

Why did we do this?

We have received complaints of errant golf balls on Campbell Road and as part of our risk management, we are deterring golfers and actively discouraging our members from aiming towards the road and bringing the ball back in play on the fairway.

We have removed several trees to open up the fairway as well.

Please ensure that you continue to report any errant golf balls towards our course boundaries to our pro shop.
