General Update

Welcome to the first newsletter of the new financial year.

We have welcomed over 30 new members from various categories in the last few weeks. Encouragingly, we have also received 9 new young adults (under 30) and 8 new full members.

Our full category members have clicked just over 300 and we are pleased that our timesheet remains accessible (no waiting list) and by further removing the ticketing queue, our members continue to receive one of the best course access in Perth.

A kind reminder that the reason we close the timesheet at the start of the day for all days is to stop the practice of ghosting or not showing up for your tee time. You are required to call the pro shop on the day of playing if you find yourself unable to play. If you don't call us, we will mark your name as a "no-show" on the day. Likewise, if you wish to play on the day and the timesheet is closed for booking, please call the pro shop to book your tee time.

With the recent change of membership category access, Wednesday and Friday are optional competition timesheets. It means that both casual and competition play is allowed. We kindly remind members that we require a minimum of 8 players for the competition. If the minimum number is not met, we will still process your handicap score on the day and your comp fee will be returned to your member account.

The only "casual" timesheet is on days after 3.30 pm. (timesheet will not be closed).

Please remember that you must always register for your game in the pro shop, prior to teeing off. No exceptions.

Hosting events on Fridays

Friday is a non-premium day. There will be occasions when the timesheet may be closed off for half a day for hosting events. When this happens, this affects all categories of membership. Fridays are not exclusive to one category of membership and although we endeavour to minimise the impact of the closure of timesheets due to hosting events, this could not be avoided and will continue to happen. We are no different to any private clubs.

Own a hole - Course Care concept for members

In the next few months, we will be re-instating the "Own a hole" concept for course care by members. Members will be allocated a hole assigned by their starting alphabet in their surnames. For example, if your surname starts with G, your assigned course care hole is the 6th. We encourage members to repair other divots or pitch marks on their designated holes.

More details will follow once the concept is finalised.

Lost Property

We advise members to be careful of their own property and items at the Club. If you have lost or misplaced any items, please contact the office/pro shop as soon as you know. It is hard for us to detect or locate lost items particularly when footage is not available or it could be an honest mistake of someone taking it or discarding the item(s).

That said, if you do happen to locate any of the following items, please return them to the office:

1. Bushnell Range Finder V5 (black and red) displaced in the golf cart on Sunday 9 July

2. An old photo album with a red cover.

3. A watch (GFK brand), black band with silver face.

Please note that we won't be regularly advertising lost properties in the newsletter. We just want to highlight members to be more vigilant and if you do see any properties misplaced, please hand it over to the office or pro shop.

We do have a collection of misplaced clothes, hats and gloves in the pro shop. Please come and collect your lost properties.

HP squad training

Junior Golf

Thursday 6 July saw the commencement of the GGC Junior High-Performance Squad with their first three-hour squad training session run by Calum Juniper.

The squad members selected will form the basis of our first girls' pennant team and our first two boys' pennant teams in 2024.  The intent of the squad, like our pennant training during summer, is to build on our team spirit, sharing skills such as preparation and training for tournaments, testing these skills under pressure and ultimately creating an environment that breeds elite players.

Calum took the squad through a number of competitive skill-based activities along with some important strategies around how to prepare for a tournament.

The current squad will work together through to end of February 2024 at which point the 2024/25 squad will be selected for the year ahead.

Longer term we are dreaming big!  Subject to sufficient fundraising, in future years we would like to send our squad to a high-ranking interstate junior tournament - kitted out in GGC uniforms of course.

A big thanks to Calum for running the first session - the kids absolutely loved it.  We look forward to watching the development of this group.

Quick Reminders - Golf and Course

No carts or buggies are to always cross the blue lines on the course. The blue lines are not just for motorised carts, it applies to all forms of carts and buggies.

When you are teeing off the 10th or from your second shot of the 10th, please be mindful that if you hit an errant golf ball on our neighbour's property, you must report it to the pro shop/office. It is also a courtesy to apologise to our neighbours if you see them.

There are regular sightings of range golf balls in the upper end of the range (near the neighbour's house) so please kindly refrain from hitting any ball further than 150m.

The traffic sign on the 13th green directing traffic to the right side of the green, towards the path must be obeyed by all golfers. Please do not drag your buggies or walk on the other side of the 13th green.

The pace of play. A good pace of play is about keeping up with the group in front of you.

Members are only allowed to practice playing on the course with a maximum of TWO golf balls. Please refrain from hitting more than 2 during your practice/casual play on the course.
