Over the past week, there has been much discussion around the club, and to fellow board members, who have been told there is some conversation that is confusing and incorrect around the proposed development of our golf facility and clubhouse.
On behalf of the board of management, we want to be very clear about what is true/fact, and what is not true and rumour.
Fact and true
- We hope to acquire the two parcels of land very cheaply. We will only know what this will cost the club once a value has been provided by the Department of Planning Lands and Heritage (DPLH). This has been supported by the City of Gosnells to assist in the club redevelopment. We will know this outcome in the coming months.
- The board of management believe this can be achieved within the current budget which includes an allocation from last year's fees and levies I.E., no loan.
- We are also seeking to fund the redevelopment through GRANTS and donations from all levels of government and various government agencies. Grants and donations are not required to be paid back. They are in essence, a gift for the designed purpose for which the grant was provided. The City of Gosnells council is supportive of invigorating the club premises for future generations and the ongoing development of juniors and growth of golf participation in the local community - as we are!
- We hope to achieve a very high level of funding through the grant process. For example, many of you will know various sporting and other clubs within our community that have received grants. The grants they have received are in line with what we will require. We are encouraged by the support shown to these various other sporting clubs and associations.
- We hope to have no or very little debt.
- We are very ambitious and intend to deliver to members a platform for the sustainability of future membership, growth in golf participation across juniors, seniors and women and a prosperous food and beverage offering.
Not true and rumour
- We are NOT going to burden the club with significant levels of debt!
- We have NO intention to increase annual fees above normal inflation.
- We have NO intention to double members fees.
- We are NOT putting the financial well-being of the club at risk.
The board of management are united and committed to delivering freehold land with newly renovated club facilities with members maintaining their affordability to remain at the club.
I urge you to talk to a board member should you hear otherwise.
I look forward to discussing this in more detail at the AGM during Q&A - Wednesday 11th October at 7:30 pm.
