The recently held Junior Gala Day last month was a tremendous success, raising $18k for our junior program. This is $8k more than last year and we thank all parties involved in the management and running of the event. It was exciting to see how much this event has grown and the DJ on the 7th tee was well received by all participants on the day.
Our new head chef, Gus has prepared a new daily menu. A week into it and the new menu is well received by members and guests. The feedback received has been fantastic!
You may see a few new faces in our pro shop and bar. Welcome to all our new staff for the past few months - Tyson (bar), Azer (pro shop), Anthony (pro shop), Felicity (bar) and Robbie (bar). We bid farewell to Kai (pro shop) as he moves on in his medical profession field next week and Aleisha (pro shop) moving to a teaching contractor position at GGC from next week.
We also welcome a new contracted teaching professional - Roy O'Neill. Roy is from Ireland and is here on a working holiday visa with a PGA teaching accreditation, having previously taught in Ireland and Spain. Roy will be starting next week and his new lessons platform will be advertised shortly.
There are so many events coming up this month and next, as we head into Christmas. Our functions and F&B are in our busiest season but we aim to minimise as much disruption to members. There are times when there will be a crossover (for example Friday nights with Twilights) but please be assured that we are mindful of the balancing act and we thank all members for their advance cooperation in the matter.
One of the club's inaugural and major event coming up is our Gala Night. This is our one night to acknowledge and recognise our inaugural Hall of Fame members, membership service years members (20 years and above) and champions of our major events. It is a great value night, at only $65pp for a 3-course dinner and arrival drink. The Club is heavily subsidising the event with jazz entertainment and our MC on the night is Craig Tapp (from Sport FM's 91.3fm Golf Guys show). Please come and show your support by booking and paying directly online.
Our Melbourne Cup and Lunch is now fully booked. If you would like to join us just for lunch, please contact our office directly. The cost for lunch only is $45pp. Lunch needs to be paid prior to the event. We are still selling Calcutta tickets for horses (drawn on Melbourne Cup day) in the bar and office. Cash only. As we head into summer, we will be facing scorching hot days. We have the Extreme Weather policy in place. Please read and abide by the policy. We will not tolerate members who are abusive to staff in the process of implementing this policy. (Please note that the health and safety of our staff comes first on scorching hot days. Staff may refuse to provide drinks cart service if it endangers their health - we are reviewing the matter to possibly put in place an alternative).
We recently reviewed the Motorised Vehicles policy and this was approved at the last Board meeting. This mainly affects members who stored their vehicles at the Club.
Many of you are also aware of the recent fire at Eastern Golf Club in Victoria. I am in discussion with our insurers on this matter seeking to further understand the risk from lithium batteries left on charge on premises. There will be further development in this area for our members who store their (battery-charged) buggies on-site.
Good luck to all our juniors that will compete in the upcoming Junior Club Championship (19 Nov and 26 Nov). Entry forms are now available in the pro shop and office.
There is a lot to unpack in this newsletter. Please read through the notices below as it may serve as new knowledge or a kind reminder of our policies and procedures.
