We are pleased to announce the nomination of our course apprentice, Jason Gangell as one of the nominees for the Course Apprentice of the Year in the soon-to-be-held Golf WA Industry Awards next week.
This nomination is well-deserved and we are all very proud of Jason's inclusion in the award.
I decided to start a career in horticulture because of my passion for nature and plants. However, my trajectory shifted towards turf management, driven by the unique challenges it presented. Unlike plants, turf is meticulously cultivated for the sole purpose of being played upon. I find the complexity of nurturing turf, manipulating it to meet specific performance standards, and ensuring its resilience under various conditions to be both challenging and rewarding.
The best part about working at Gosnells Golf Club is the opportunity to shape the turf to meet our specific needs, ultimately creating an exceptional playing surface. What excites me is the challenge of creating an ideal turf area, no matter the tough conditions or environment. It is the perfect blend of precision, problem-solving, and dedication that makes my work truly fulfilling.
Despite the early mornings, scorching days, and encounters with wildlife like snakes, the most challenging aspect of my job revolves around ensuring everything is in top condition, particularly during peak seasons and tournaments. The goal is to maintain the course in peak condition, demanding a constant balance of meticulous care and efficient management.
I began my apprenticeship three years ago, and I have one more year left in the program. Looking ahead, my aspirations for the next five years are completing the Ohio State Program and leading up to a leadership role within the industry. Whether situated in Australia or abroad, my aim is to continue learning and contributing to the enhancement of golf courses, making them great places to play.
