Upcoming Major events
Starting with the Club Foursomes Championships on Sunday 24 March, we are entering an extremely busy time for major events.
All our open events occur over April and early May with entries already open for the Junior Open (Friday 5 April), Men's Senior Open (Friday 19 April), and Gosnells Open (Sat 20 and Sun 21 April). Entries just opened today for the Women's Silver Bronze (Friday 10 May).
The week starting Monday 8 April is a big week for the club as we host the Australian Junior - with the course closed to members for the week. General Manager Fiza has been busy arranging some tee times at other courses during this week - please see below for the reciprocal timesheet information. We have put a call out for volunteers so please consider giving up some of your time to assist and watch the best junior golfers in the country and help us to put on a good show to the Australian golfing community.
Also held in April, will be the Master's Breakfast & Golf on Monday 15 April - timesheet bookings will open on Monday 25 March at 5pm. (3 weeks prior).
Planning is well underway for ANZAC Day on Thursday 25 April. Any members who have served in a defence force and wish to play on ANZAC Day are invited to email or advise Moka Edwards (Golf Ops Manager) of their intention to play by 11 April. They will be offered the opportunity to have their group reserved before the timesheet opens. A further update will come closer to time on arrangements for ANZAC Day.
BBQ Shotgun starts
For the next 3 months, we will be running a trial shotgun start once a month on a Thursday and Saturday with a BBQ menu available for purchase. Weather permitting, presentations will be in the grassed area in the BBQ area. A BBQ-specific menu will be available for both lunch and dinner and will be emailed to participants registered to play at the beginning of the week along with a copy on the booking sheet. Thank you to Adam Kuzimski who is sponsoring Thursday 28 March (AM and PM) and Craig Grant for Saturday 13 April (AM and PM).
Pennants
Congratulations to one of the Division 4 Junior Boys teams who took out the pennant for 2024 - well done boys.
Shirt Presentation for the Men's Senior, Women's Weekday and Women's Division 1 Teams will occur on Thursday 4 April after the Thursday PM presentations. We look forward to announcing these teams and wishing them well for the season ahead.
Presentations for all Men's divisions (other than seniors) will occur on Saturday 8 June and presentations for Women's Seniors will occur on a Wednesday to be determined closer to the start of the season.
Rules
A question was recently asked as to whether the garden bed between the 5th green and 6th tee is a penalty area. The sign indicating compulsory drop had caused some confusion.
On the issue of penalty area or not - the easy way to remember is, at Gosnells all penalty areas are marked by red lines or stakes. Ground Under Repair (GUR) are marked by white dots, lines or stakes. As this area has been marked by white lines or stakes - it is GUR. At Gosnells, all areas marked as GUR require a compulsory drop - hence the sign referred to above.
A quick reminder there are some great educational resources on the Royal and Ancient website The R&A (randa.org) to help you with the knowledge of the rules, including a multiple choice rules exam and short videos.
