Caralee Medical Centre - Men's Senior Open

11th April 2025

The start of our three day "Open" weekend commenced with the Men's Senior Open once again proudly sponsored by Caralee Medical Centre.

This event is now in it's 5th year and it continues to receive strong support with 119 players entered, including 36 visitors.

The combination of warm and sunny conditions along with fast greens presented players with a stern challenge.

With the field split into stableford and stroke players dependent on handicap, Tony Wall of Royal Fremantle Golf Club won the stableford format with 38 points.

In the stroke format, Gosnells member Chris Pobjoy took away best nett with a great score of nett 67, while David Alexander of Royal Perth Golf Club won with Men's Senior Open (gross) with a score of 71.

A big thank you once again to Hall of Fame member, Lino Scartozzi for arranging sponsorship of this event.

YHB Group - Gosnells Open

12th and 13th April 2025

Our new Platinum sponsor, YHB Group, commenced their three-year partnership with the club as title sponsor of our signature event, the Gosnells Open.  Once again it is fantastic to have corporate sponsors investing in our club and we look forward to growing this partnership going forward.

The event was once again run as a separate Men's and Women's state ranking event.  While the men played from our Black course, the women played from our seldom used Red Championship course (par 71) - the same set up as for the 2024 Australian Junior Girls Amateur.

The Women's event, was being run for the 4th year and after the first round hopes of a home victory rested with Sasha Hofman, Jorja Hinson-Tolchard and new Women's Club Champion Saehi Suh who were fighting it out with Valerie Khuu (Mount Lawley) and our much loved staff member Amanda Gan (Royal Fremantle).  Heading into the final nine holes the title was still up for grabs, but on the back of a fine round of one under par 70, Valerie Khuu became the 4th winner of this event.  Congratulations to Rose Moorby (Hartfield) for winning best nett.

In the Men's event, there were 17 players within 4 shots of the first round lead set by GM Shaun Malone, with Mason Burr (+1), Connor Pearson (+2), Andrew Woods (+3), Dan Barnett (+4) and Craig Tolchard (+4) among the Gosnells players chasing the lead.

The spectators out watching the final groups on Sunday were spoilt with some stunning stroke play as Mason Burr and Ryan Gault (Lake Karrinyup) separated themselves from the pack with both finishing on one under par for the 36 holes.  A sudden death playoff ensued and unfortunately for Gosnells, Mason could not quite get a Gosnells name back on the trophy, going down on the second playoff hole.  Mason you should feel proud of your efforts - you did us proud.

Although the playoff outcome was a disappointing result for Gosnells, it was a fitting way to end the weekend that saw some great golf being played over the three days.  Congratulations to Gosnells member Craig Tolchard for winning best nett.

Of course, events such as these don't happen without a lot of people supporting the event.  In particular I would like to thank the EBs who once again showed their club spirit in providing 12 volunteers along with members of the Match Committee and Simon Podesta assisting with marshalling and rules questions.  On an individual basis, the volunteer roles performed may not seem significant, but they all contribute to the smooth running of the event - the players all appreciate your efforts and always comment on how smoothly events are run at Gosnells.  Importantly, this showed a vibrant club spirit to the 116 visiting players over the three days.

ANZAC Day

Message from the Captain - Glen Tueno

Dear Members

As indicated in my recent update I would like to confirm the arrangements for the day.

Activities prior to ANZAC Day Ceremony

There is no AM play on course as a mark of respect to those who served our country.

10am - Pro Shop will be open - members will be able to purchase range balls as usual.

Our traditional Gunfire Brunch will once occur in the locker room - coordinated by Lawrie Bennett.  Members to bring a plate to share.

Alfresco TV will be playing the ANZAC Day parade

ANZAC DAY Ceremony to commence 1145

Members to gather around the flagpoles at 1145 for our ANZAC Day Service

This year the organising committee determined that it was important that we get some younger members involved in the ceremony.

 With that said, the following members have accepted an invitation to be a part of the ceremony;

 - Connor Pearson and Saehi Suh (our two junior club champions) will lay the wreath.

 - Grace Cheetham will read the Ode.

 - Jared Lloyd and Matt Haines will raise the Australian and New Zealand flags.

- Although not a younger member, Stan Baker will once again deliver a poem reading.

Thank you to the above members for accepting our invitation to be part of the ceremony.

 Shotgun start 1245

As was the case last year, a slighter later shotgun start (rather than the normal 1230) to allow us some extra time between the ceremony and the commencement of golf.

A complimentary sausage sizzle will be available alongside the 4th fairway /  14th green /  15th tee / 17th green complex from 1pm to 4pm- the location of what will be our Halfway Hut.  Thanks must go to two of our members who have come together to offer a "silent sponsorship" to pay for this.

The drinks cart will be in operation for members to purchase drinks.

Post Game

Presentations will occur in the Alfresco area.

As it is a Friday, our Friday night dining will be running and members are encouraged to book early should they wish to dine post presentations.

ANZAC Day is an important day at the club.  I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank our ANZAC Day organising committee, Lawrie Bennett, Geoff Millar, Grace Cheetham, Clay Godwin along with Carlee and Moka for their enthusiasm in helping to ensure our ANZAC Day traditions are continued.

Local Rules

With water now in the 9th / 18th lake - we have removed the local rule of the  "no play zone" for these two holes.  As such, if your ball is in the  penalty area, you can choose to play your ball (for no penalty) if you wish.

The normal relief options apply as per the rules of golf should you decide to take penalty relief.  As has been the case for some time now, there is no drop zone option for either hole.
