It has been another productive week on the course, with the team focused on maintaining surface quality and continuing to build momentum following a very successful Opening Day.
All greens were needle-tined and lightly dusted with sand, followed by rolling. This process improves surface smoothness, enhances firmness, and promotes better gas exchange within the profile without causing significant disruption to play. The light topdressing assists in maintaining trueness while continuing to dilute organic matter accumulation.
Greens were also edged to remove encroaching runners. This maintains clean definition between collars and putting surfaces, prevents contamination of grass species, and preserves surface consistency.
Turf health across the greens is currently in excellent condition for this time of year, and we are extremely pleased with how they are performing. Surface smoothness, density, and overall plant vigour remain strong.
In the coming week, greens will receive a soil spray application incorporating beneficial microbes to enhance soil biology and rootzone resilience. This will be combined with a nematicide application to reduce nematode populations and protect root health moving into the warmer period.
Tees have been treated with a selective herbicide targeting crab grass to improve surface uniformity. Outside of minor weed presence, tee health remains very good, with density and recovery rates continuing to improve under the current maintenance program.
Green surrounds have been verti-mowed to remove excess thatch and reduce scalping potential – just concentrated on the front of the surrounds for now. This promotes a more upright growth habit, improves surface quality, and enhances playability around greens while managing organic matter levels.
The course is currently in very good condition, and we were particularly pleased with the positive feedback received following Opening Day. The team’s continued effort and attention to detail are clearly reflected in both playing surfaces and overall presentation.
We will maintain this proactive approach as we move further into the season to ensure consistency, surface quality, and member satisfaction remain high.
