This week the greens received a light dusting of sand to improve surface smoothness and assist with the dilution of organic matter within the soil profile. This process was followed by a granular fertiliser application to support strong turf health, with the added benefit of introducing beneficial microbes into the soil structure.
Members will begin to notice the early effects of the selective herbicide (Pylex) applied to green edges last week. The results observed so far are exactly as anticipated, with affected weed grasses beginning to decline. We are hopeful this program will lead to improved control and gradual eradication of these species from the greens.
With current high temperatures, we have continued spot applications of additional wetting agent to selected hot spot areas on fairways and tees. This work improves moisture penetration, surface consistency, and overall plant health, helping to alleviate turf stress during this challenging period.
Overall turf health across the course remains strong for this time of year. Recent verti-mowing of kikuyu-dominated areas has improved playability and surface firmness. Bunker maintenance has also continued, with ongoing levelling and edging works undertaken to enhance consistency and playability. You will also notice that we have started to implement some grass paths from tee to fairway on selected holes where growth is strong, as these areas take time to adjust some scalping will be visible, over the next few weeks this will settle down leading to an enhanced the look of the course and presentation.
Looking ahead to next week, we are aiming to access the 9th and 18th lakes to remove accumulated aquatic weeds. This area is a key visual feature of the course and improving its presentation remains a priority.
